In
the past the training and certification of Service &
Repair Technicians has been non-existent, so the
industry has relied solely on manufacturers
equipment aquainance courses. These courses provide
essential information but are very short, resulting in
an attendance certificate not a formal qualification.
Therefore, few Diving Technicians have formal
qualifications.
It is of great concern to
the HSE and to ASSET that many technicians would not be
able to fulfil the criteria for a "Competent
Person" should an incident occur. (A
Competent Person may be defined as a person who has
suitable Training, Certification and Experience).
All those who have
attended the DITC satisfy the majority of these criteria
and have the additional opportunity to complete an NVQ
in engineering maintenance.
We are now able to offer
experienced but uncertified Technicians the opportunity
to use their knowledge, experience and past maintenance
records to gain a Nationally recognised qualification.
By attending a two-day course of training and
evaluation, the experienced technician can also achieve
an NVQ level 2 in Engineering Maintenance.
We will be holding just
2 of these courses annually and demand is expected to be
high.
